Full Moon Rise

When:
Where: Mordecai Richler Gazebo
Direction: Northeast (53°)

Facing the northeast, about 30 minutes before sunset, the Full Moon will rise over the horizon.

As the Sun is setting, in the eastern sky we should see a pink sky with a dark band on the horizon, a phenomenon known as the Belt of Venus. This is the shadow of the Earth being shown on our atmosphere, and will provide a beautiful tabletop setting for the Full Moon.

At first, the Moon will appear an orange-pink colour as it sits low on the horizon. This happens every time the Moon is low on the horizon, caused by Rayleigh Scattering. The Moon will appear a yellow colour as it gets higher, then it's normal white colour when high enough over the horizon.
